Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC is facing headache over its decision to rent its building complex to the Beverages Corporation and accusations are being hauled for supposedly engaging in liquor business. The situation has also created a social media uproar with many memes and trolls mocking the situation being shared online.
It was a move taken by the corporation which is struggling to pay salaries of its employees. They are planning to rent the maximum number of buildings to increase miscellaneous revenue.
KSRTC marketing department laid its eyes on the Beverages Corporation that is in search of new shops following the High Court order. The only condition put forward was that it should not prove to be a nuisance for the bus service and the passengers. The Beverages Corporation’s catch is that they get the building for low rent.
Beverages Corporation may build buildings on KSRTC land if needed. KSRTC is willing to transfer unused lands for this purpose for a temporary period.
The Beverages Corporation has been trying to find new locations for 153 shops that are to be shifted from there. If the shops within the land limit are not shifted, they will need to be shut down. The bar owners will benefit from such a move.
