Kozhikode: "Shine was not like this. He was a very well-behaved person," remembers the man about his drug-addicted son, who stabbed him and his wife at their house in Kozhikode on Sunday. Shine, hailing from Eranhipalam, stabbed his father and mother following a dispute.
"We started to notice the change in the behaviour of our son recently. He became agitated and angry. He occasionally quarrelled with his mother. He never assaulted his mother before. Shine arrived home late on Sunday night after leaving home in the evening. After coming home, he tried to call someone using our phones. When we objected to this, he threatened us. This later turned into a fight," he said.
His father claimed Shine started using drugs with his friends despite them objecting to it.

Shine himself rang up the police and told them that he had already killed his parents. When police reached his house, he was pacing in the courtyard, holding a knife. Though the police brought him under control and locked him in a room here, he soon began to threaten that he would kill himself. This urged the mother to open the door. As soon as she opened the door, Shine stabbed on her back and neck. When police rescued her, Shine charged upon his father, Shaji, lying in the next room. He was bedridden after Shine broke his leg earlier in a brawl.
Police informed that the accused had stabbed Shaji eight times, and the cops had no other way, except to fire gunshots to distract the youth. A few police officers were also injured while attempting to subdue the accused.
