He beat us! How 7-yr-old stunned Yathish Chandra IPS at rights panel hearing
Kakkanad: At a hearing before the State Human Right Commission, former Kochi DCP Yathish Chandra had to face an unlikely adversary in seven-year-old Allen from Puthuvype.
Allen, along with his parents, had appeared for the SHRC sitting over the alleged police atrocities on the agitators in Puthuvype which included women and children.
During the hearing, Allen was asked who hit him. Immediately, the child pointed fingers at the IPS officer and said he beat up him and his brother Alphin during the agitation.
Allen made his statement before SHRC Acting Chairman P Mohandas at the hearing held at Ernakulam Collectorate Conference Hall.
Allen, with his innocent statement, lightened up the otherwise tensed mood at the hall. A smiling Yathish asked the boy if he had hit him. To this, Allen replied with a firm ‘yes’.
Yathish maintained that no brutal force was used during the strike. He also produced some visuals to substantiate his claims. However, the agitators said they are edited clips.
Subsequently, the Commission ordered to produce CCTV visuals from four police stations in the city and submit a CD of unedited visuals. Yathish Chandra was asked to file an affidavit on the matter.
