HC takes suo-moto case over girl's death in Kasaragod due to food poisoning

Kochi: Kerala High Court has taken a suo moto case in the death of a girl after consuming shawarma in Kasaragod. The division bench of the HC filed a case based on the media reports. The court has directed the state government to file an affidavit on the matter.

Further, the court asked the restaurants and food outlets to make sure that they follow cleanliness protocols. The state government stated that they had taken strict action over girl's death.

Meantime, the health officials have strenghtened food inspections in Cheruvathoor panchyat. The shops without licence will be shut down. The health check-ups will be made mandatory for workers.

Devananda, a 16-year-old student, died after consuming shawarma from Ideal foodpoint in Cheruvathoor. At the same time, 17 others were also admitted to the hospital with severe symptoms.
