HC quashes Pattoor land deal case

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday quashed the Pattoor land case involving former chief minister Oommen Chandy and others.

The court cancelled the case saying that it won't stand legal scrutiny.

The court acquitted five persons including Oommen Chandy. The High Court initiated the action on a petition filed by former chief secretary Bharat Bhushan.

Officials including Bharat Bhushan were accused in the case. The High Court has cancelled the First Information Report registered by the Vigilance. With this action, the Vigilance probe into the case has ended.

The High Court severely criticized former Vigilance Director Jacob Thomas. The court pointed out that the Vigilance registered the First Information Report based on the wrong report prepared by Jacob Thomas.

The court has clarified that the Lokayukta can take action to reclaim puramboke(waste land).

Pointing out that the social media interventions in connection with the case tantamount to contempt of court, the court said that it is not initiating contempt procedures for the time being.
