HC directs CBI to investigate Shukoor murder case
Kochi: The High Court on Monday directed the CBI to investigate the case relating to the murder of MSF activist Abdul Shukoor. The court considered the petition filed by Shukoor’s mother, to order the CBI investigation. While ordering CBI probe, Justice Kemal Pasha said that the police investigation of the case is not satisfactory.
The court criticised the CBI for not taking up the case even though the government issued an order for CBI investigation.
"The CBI cannot escape from investigating the case. The court cannot remain indifferent to the sorrow of Shukoor’s mother . Goons are having a free reign here. This cannot be allowed," the court said.
The court also severely criticised the investigating officer. The government informed the court that the investigation was hindered due to political interference. The government admitted that it could not conduct the investigation properly.
CPM district secretary P Jayarajan and TV Rajesh MLA are among the accused in the case. However, they have been presently charged with concealing the plan to murder Shukoor even after coming to know of it. The state police chief had submitted a report saying that they must be charged of conspiracy in the murder. Following this, the government decided to hand over the case to CBI. Shukoor’s mother approached the High Court as the CBI refused to take up the case.
With the CBI taking up the case, the CPM Kannur leadership is facing a major crisis. The High Court will consider the aniticipatory bail plea filed by P Jayarajan in connection with Kathiroor Manoj murder case on February 10.
Meanwhile, CPM leader EP Jayarajan said that the party will approach the Supreme Court challenging the HC order.
