Kochi: Kerala High Court has delayed the pronouncement of the verdict in a petition seeking more time for the probe into the actress attack case. Justice Kauser Edappagath has changed the date after hearing the petition on Wednesday.

Earlier, the crime branch approached the high court requesting three months to continue the probe in the actress attack case. However, actor Dileep, the accused in the case, criticized the move from the prosecution and opposed it. His lawyer told the court that it was not ideal to consider the petition. They dismissed the prosecution's claim for more time to examine the forensic evidence in the case. They also added that the prosecution is trying to insult the court.

"What is wrong with the court examining the memory card? The court has the right to examine it. If there are any flaws in the part of the court proceedings, only the vigilance unit of the high court has the right to examine it," the defendants said.

They also said that crime branch has no reason to check the memory card.

Crime Branch does not hold powers to examine memory card which is in possession of the court, pointed out Dileep's lawyer.

The government, however, told the court that it had not made any move to insult the court and had only pointed out certain facts and requested an examination as part of the investigation.

Dileep told the court that the crime branch's allegation that he was in possession of the footage of the attack on the actress was false. The actor also opposed the need for more time to examine digital evidence citing that the results of the forensic examination came out three months ago. Therefore, Dileep requested that no more time should be given so that it could affect the trial of the case.
