Pathanamthitta: The Kerala High Court has directed the Pathanamthitta District Collector to appear in person on January 31 regarding contempt of court petition. Dr Divya S Iyer has been asked to appear before the court for not restoring an illegally filled field.

Pullad native Varghese C Mathew had approached the high court in June 2022, against his neighbour Mathew. Varghese had stated that his house got waterlogged due to illegal filling of a field. He said that this also led to crop damage. In the petition filed with the court, he stated that steps should be taken to restore the field.

After hearing the petitioner, the court had directed on July 26 that necessary measures should be taken within six weeks. Varghese filed a contempt of court plea stating that no actions were taken.

Justice PV Kunhikrishnan has directed the district collector to appear in person and give explanation. The order also states that if the court order is implemented before January 31, the district collector will not have to appear.
