Kochi: Kerala High Court has ordered to submit all documents related to the appointment of Prof H Venkateshwarlu as the vice chancellor of Central University of Kerala while considering a petition challenging his appointment. The order was issued by a division bench comprising Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Murali Purushothaman.
According to the petition, the appointment of Venkateshwarlu violated the provisions of UGC regulations and the Central Universities Act, 2009. Karnataka native Dr G Venkitesh Kumar, who is a professor in the psychiatry department at Mysore University filed the petition.
The union education ministry had told the Visitor of the university that there were no suitable candidates in the panel prepared by the search committee, constituted in 2019 to find the VC. The ministry then prepared a panel and submitted it to the Visitor, from which Prof Venkateshwarlu was chosen.
The union government sought dismissal of the petition stating UGC regulations have no precise guidelines for VC appointments.
