HC allows for woman judge in actress attack case trial
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday decided to appoint a female judge to hear the sensational actress attack case. The court has instructed the Registrar to confirm the availability of woman judge in Ernakulam or Thrissur districts. The report regarding this has to be submitted at the court on Thursday when the case will be considered again.
Earlier the woman actor, reportedly assaulted inside a moving car, had requested for a woman judge to hear the case. she had approached Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan with the request and he forwarded the request to the Kerala High Court.
HC observed that there are no enough courts to deal with the crimes against women and children and termed the situation as critical.
Court also observed that cases related to crime against women and children are on the increase in the state for the past six months. In other states there are proper system to record statements. But the situation in Kerala is pathetic. The victim has to come to the court in front of the offender to record statement. This doesn't allow the victims to give statements without fearing anyone, it further said.
