Malappuram: A Malappuram native who had left Kerala after converting to Islam has sent a message saying that he has not joined the terrorist outfit Islamic State (IS). Abdulla alias Akhil sent an e-mail to the probe officials and also contacted his parents over phone.
In the e-mail sent to the Malappuram district police chief and the Circle Inspector, Perinthalmanna, Abdulla claimed that he had no links with IS. He told his father that he would return home after completing his studies in Yemen.
Akhil converted to Islam and changed his name to Abdulla two years ago while he was an engineering student. He then left Kerala.
The police are trying to find out the source of the e-mail. They are also probing the call received by his parents.
