Hartal violence: 1369 arrested in 801 cases
Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 1369 persons were arrested in connection with the cases related to hartal violence. 717 persons are kept under preventive detention and 801 cases are registered with regard to the hartal attack incidents, as per the statistics published by the police.
It is indicated that more persons will be arrested in the coming days. The police are reportedly planning to keep more persons under preventive detention. The DGP had sought report from the district police chiefs in connection with the attacks during the hartal on Thursday in Kerala in protest over the Sabarimala issue.
Though the shop owners were ready to open shops and demanded police protection, they could not open the shops due to widespread attacks. Also the police failed to shield the shops in SM street in Kozhikode during the violence. As allegations arose that these were the lapses from the part of the police, the DGP expressed displeasure over the incidents and sought report on the same.
It is alleged that sufficient number of police force were not deployed despite the intelligence reports. The failure to take adequate preventive measures also was a lapse. The DGP expressed dissatisfaction over neglecting the intelligence report.
