Hartal peaceful in Alappuzha; special team to probe violent incidents
Alappuzha: The hartal called by the CPM and Congress in Alappuzha district on Sunday following the KSU-DYFI clash in the town yesterday, was peaceful.
The hartal was observed till 2 pm. Buses of KSRTC water transport department conducted services. Shops remained shut. CPM workers conducted a march in the town.
The violence erupted on Saturday after DYFI activists came up with the allegation that the flags and festoons of CPM and DYFI were destroyed during the march taken out by KSU as part of its ‘Samara Kahalam’ programme. The CPM and DYFI activists burnt flags and festoons of KSU. Subsequently, KSU and DYFI activists clashed against each other. Police resorted to lathi-charge as the activists started to pelt stones.
Meanwhile, the police informed that a special team will conduct a probe into the violent incidents that happened yesterday. Two cases have been registered in connection with the incident.
