Haridasan murder case: Bomb hurled at police jeep, no casualties

New Mahe: A group of unidentified men hurled a bomb at a police jeep heading in search of an accused in the murder of CPM activist Haridasan. The police jeep was attacked on Wednesday around 11 pm near Maida company at Chalakkara here.

The police officials were returning after raiding the house of Deepak alias Dragon Deepu (30) at Meethala.

The village trembled in the unexpected explosion. New Mahe Sub Inspector of Police TM Vipin and team were travelling in the jeep which was attacked. No one was injured in the attack.

Though police inspected the spot immediately after the explosion, the attackers managed to flee.

Mahe Palloor police and New Mahe police jointly raided New Mahe panchayat areas Chembra, Chalakkara and Eeyathukkad on Thursday.

Deepak is named as the third accused in Haridasan murder case. Nikhil N Nambiar (27), the fourth accused in the case, is also absconding from police.

Haridasan, a fisherman was hacked to death on February 21. BJP Thalassery constituency president K Lijesh was named the first accused in the case. 17 people, including a woman, are booked in the case. Till date, police arrested 15 persons. Among them, 14 were remanded.

Police submitted the chargesheet before Thalassery judicial magistrate court on May 20.
