Thrissur: Opposition leader VD Satheesan on Saturday said he is glad that the CPM state secretary corrected the opinion of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan that the Indian Union Muslim League is a communal party. He was addressing the media here on Saturday.
He was reacting to the comment of MV Govindan on Friday that CPM does not view the Muslim League as a communal party. The comments were observed as an attempt by CPM to get closer to an important ally of UDF.
Earlier, Muslim League state president Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal also dismissed the comments of Govindan saying they were just "a reflection of public perception."

According to Satheesan, CPM's goal of taking IUML to LDF will never be achieved.
“The Muslim League is a key ally of the UDF. We almost function like a single party. League extended great support to the Bharat Jodo Yatra. CPM is trying to keep the public eye away from the controversies surrounding the government by making such statements,” he added.
Govindan recalled the 1967 ministry in which his party shared power with IUML.
