Thiruvananthapuram: Terming the Covid-19 relief measures declared by the state government insufficient, former health minister and current MLA from Mattannur constituency, K K Shailaja, urged the government to consider it very seriously.
It was during a session in the Kerala Legislative Assembly to bring attention on the various sectors, which are affected by Covid-19, Shailaja raised her point. She brought the sufferings of small scale and traditional employment sectors to the notice of the government. The declared relief aid is just a temporary solution, she added.
She also requested the government to clear the salary arrears of handloom workers soon and raise Onam rebate by 10 percent. The existing welfare schemes are not enough; only a special package can save them. Interest-free subsidy can also help them, she pointed out.
Unlike the usual criticism of the Opposition against the government, the voice raised by the ruling party member Shailaja stood unique. Replying her, Minister for Industries P Rajeev explained about the various projects in this regard and also assured considering her suggestions.
