Mattannur: In order to let foreign air passengers know the handloom tradition of Kannur, a handloom machine has been set up at the Kannur International Airport Terminal along with other exhibits. The machine was installed by the Kannur Institute of Handloom Technology.
Many wall paintings and other art forms which narrates the socio-cultural heritage of Kerala will welcome passengers at the terminal. The handloom machine is set up at the departure terminal of the airport.
The machine was designed in teak wood by an expert team of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology. It was prepared with the cooperation of the skilled handloom workers, said Executive Director N. Sreedhanyan.
The machine was manufactured under the leadership of technical superintendent Sreenath, temple sculpture M. V. Kuttikrishnan Achari, A. K. Ramakrishnan, Deepesh and Chandran Kommeri. Minister E. P. Jayarajan will unveil the handloom machine model on the airport inaugural day on December 9.
