Kondotty: The draw of lots of hajj applicants conducted under Kerala State Haj Committee ended up in confusion and obscurities. Though the results of the draw were published in the committee’s website, the list seems vague.

The list also included categories of applicants who were selected directly without conducting a draw. All applicants above 70 years of age and women applicants above 45 years of age without a ‘mahram’ (blood relative male guardian) were directly selected for the pilgrimage without draw.

As many as 9270 applicants were selected out of the total 19,524 applications received from Kerala this year. Only 5033 applicants in the general category got selection for the hajj pilgrimage. The state haj committee had received 15,287 applications under the general category.

The draw of lots was conducted at the Ministry for Minority Affairs in Delhi. The draw for each state has been carried out separately.
