Medical officials inspecting fever affected at V.M.H.M Higher Secondary School in Anayamkunnu
Kozhikode: Swine flu (H1N1) has been identified in seven students of a school here in the district. The affected are students of V.M.H.M Higher Secondary School at Anayamkunnu in Mukkam.
After 10 students and 13 teachers from the institution were affected with fever, a team of health department officials conducted inspections at the school. Samples collected from students and teachers where sent to the medical laboratory in Manipal for advanced diagnostics. The laboratory officials confirmed H1N1 in seven samples.
All the fever affected showed the same symptoms – cough, throat ache and high fever. The affected were not getting get any relief while more people started complaining of the same symptoms.
Students from primary and higher secondary sections in the school were not affected. Only high school students were affected. Most of them are Class 10 students. More importantly, the affected students are residents of different areas.
“The affected students belong to different areas of the panchayat,” school principal Thomas Mathew said. Health department officials said that there was no need for concern.
The school has been closed temporarily. As more students started suffering from fever, the school will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.
