Guruvayur temple to deposit 350 kg gold in SBI
Guruvayur: The Guruvayur devaswom board has decided to deposit the gold offerings at the State Bank of India. It is reported that a total of 350 kilo gold received as offering during the last 10 years will be deposited in the bank. With this, the devaswom board will get 2.5 percent interest from the deposit.
Meanwhile, auditing of gold offerings is in progress at the temple since the last two days. The auditing is being undertaken by Guruvayur devaswom officials and SBI Guruvayur branch officials.
Mallissery Paramseswaran Namboodirippadu, Ooralan of the temple and SV Sisir, administrator of the temple took the gold from the locker room of the temple.
Administrative members namely P Gopinathan, AV Prasanth, devaswom deputy administrator (Finance) KR Sunil Kumar and SBI branch manager Vishnu accompanied them.
The gold offerings will be purified at government mint in Mumbai and converted as 916 carat. Later, price of this gold will be calculated and deposited in SBI with the permission from Reserve Bank of India. The gold will get insurance coverage too from SBI.
The Guruvayur devaswom has deposited 300 kg gold in bank around 8 years ago, At the same time, gold ornaments studded with stones are not taken for the deposit.
