Guruvayur: The managing committee of Guruvayur Devaswom has decided to hold the Ekadasi festival on December 3 and 4. ‘Dwadasi Pana Samarpanam’ will be conducted from December 4 midnight to 9 am on the next day. ‘Dasami Vilakku’, recitation of Pancharatna kritis, and commemoration of Kesavan have been scheduled on December 2.
The concluding ceremony of the Chembai music festival and the procession to Parthasarathy temple will be held on December 3. Devaswom will conduct the ‘Ekadasi vilakku’ on December 4. Hence, the devotees can perform Ekadasi for two days.
The Devaswom Board had earlier decided to observe Ekadasi on December 3, following the advice of the temple priest. However, astrologers, including Kanippayyur Narayanan Namboodiripad had informed the board that the Ekadasi falls on December 4 this year. The astrologers had later accused Devaswom Board of violating the temple customs. Devaswom’s decision to conduct the rituals of Ekadasi for two days could be perceived as a strategy to resolve disputes.
The sanctum sanctorum will remain open from 3 am on December 2 to 11 am on the day of Dwadasi (December 5) in the wake of the festival.
