Kochi: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, while delivering his inaugural speech at the delegate meeting held as part of the state party conference, criticized the Indian government’s interventions in the rescue mission at Ukraine. According to Yechury, the government didn’t utilize the lessons and experience of Gulf war evacuation while handling the ongoing evacuation process in the wake of Russia-Ukraine war. “The government then had evacuated lakhs of individuals. However, now, theonly thing happening is that on arrival they will have cards thanking Modi and photo sessions,” he said. Yechury also pointed out that there are no effective interventions from the government.
Yechury, in a tweet the other day too, referred about Gulf war evacuation. "Modi govt had sufficient lead time to evacuate Indians from Ukraine with Russia declaring its military intentions. Instead, focus is on propaganda, spin and photo ops. GoI must get its act together & evacuate hapless Indians like it did during the Gulf War," it read.
