Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee missed the target for the membership drive yet again despite extending the deadline. As the national online membership drive ended on April 15, the state faction couldn't add even half of its initial target, which was 50 lakh.

The campaign started in November last year as part of the national re-organisation. March 31 was the initial deadline. But the committees in Kerala failed to enrol even one-fourth of the target. It was then decided to extend till April 15.

The online mode of membership distribution was chosen due to the pandemic situation. Due to the failure in people taking digital membership, KPCC introduced membership through offline mode. However, the process also met with delays. It is alleged that the A and I groups refused to step up activities to improve the membership drive. Group leaders said KPCC chief Sudhakaran failed to achieve what previous leadership could despite implementing a semi-cadre system.
