Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is preparing to take disciplinary action against the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor in-charge of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Dr Ciza Thomas. The move came following the submission of an investigation report into alleged irregularities in M Tech admission procedures for the academic year 2021-22. According to the report, Ciza Thomas, the person in charge of the senior joint Director at the Department of Technical Education failed to deliver her duty.

The report was compiled by a committee assigned by Higher Education Minister R Bindu based on a complaint received against Ciza Thomas.

Kerala Gazetted Officer's Association (KGOA) filed the complaint alleging that the scheduled category student with rank 1445 was denied admission and a student ranked 2351 received admission for an M Tech course. Pointing out the flaws in the admission procedures, a complaint was also lodged with the Director of Technical Education.

The committee recommended the removal of the Senior Joint Director and System Analyst, who is in charge of admission since they failed to fulfil their duties.

Meanwhile, Dr Ciza Thomas, who is facing flak from the ruling front for not seeking prior permission before taking charge as VC at APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, denied allegations levelled against her.

According to the report, the final date to pay the admission fees was October 21. Later, this was extended to October 23. However, this decision was not notified on the Official website.

Further, the authorities failed to close the payment portal on October 23. As a result, more students paid the admission fee even until October 25.

According to the findings of the committee, many students who paid the fee on October 23 were exempted when the rank list was published. It is observed that the department failed to conduct the admission process smoothly. The report also recommended that the admission process should be entrusted to the Commissioner of Entrance Examination or the Technical University in the coming years.
