Alappuzha: Wellness centres will be established in selected hospitals to bolster the mental and physical health of patients. Around 600 centres will be launched in the state within two months in selected Homeo, Ayurveda, and Allopathy hospitals. Funds are allocated for setting up 107 centres in the first phase using aid from the central government.

The wellness centres will have an area for Yoga practice, gym equipment and facilities for differently abled individuals. The purpose of the centre is to strengthen the mental and physical health of pregnant women, children and the elderly.

Central Government will sanction centres based on the number of patients and availability of space. The government is planning to set up 1,25,000 centres across the country. Out of this, 12,500 centres will be established under Ayush Mission and others through the Allopathy section.

The central government is likely to sanction more wellness centres in Kerala by considering the better quality of the health care system in the state. Each centre will receive Rs 5 lakh from the National Ayush Mission.
