Thiruvananthapuram: State government has initiated efforts to bring in changes in building construction practices and techniques.
The move comes in wake of repeated devastating flood havoc in the state. A highlevel meeting will soon be convened by chief minister in this regard.
The system of concrete constructions will be changed. More gypsum sheets and alternatives will be used instead. New techniques will be experimented. The first phase would be implemented for government undertakings.
The main aim is to check sand mining, rock blasting and quarrying. Strict restrictions have been put in place for construction activities in flood-hit Wayanad by district administration.
