Govt to ask banks not to attach properties in flood affected areas
Thiruvananthapuram: The government has decided to direct banks not to proceed with attachment of properties in the flood affected areas. The decision in this regard was taken during the cabinet meeting. The government will put forward this suggestion in the meeting of State Level Bankers’ Committee.
Earlier, the government had announced a moratorium of one year for bank loans in the flood affected areas. They decided to intervene in the issue as the banks including cooperative banks proceeded with attachment procedures even when the moratorium exists.
The cabinet meeting has also decided to replace K. Padmakumar with Coastal Police ADGP P. Sudesh Kumar in the post of Transport commissioner. Irrigation department additional chief secretary Dr. Vishwas Mehta will be given additional responsibility of Chairman of the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation Ltd. (KSINC). Also, N. Prasanth who has returned after central deputation will be appointed as the Managing Director of KSINC.
The cabinet has decided to grant Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) for the family of Nimisha Thampy who was murdered by a migrant labourer in Kunnathunadu of Ernakulam while trying to stop him from snatching her grandmother’s chain. Rs 5 lakh will be granted from CMDRF to the family of Tamil Nadu Ramanathapuram native Muthirulandi who died after getting electrocuted from an underground cable.
