Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala cabinet on Thursday decided to allocate Rs 50.027 crore from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) as compensation to the families of fishermen who lost working days due to weather forecast warnings.

Reportedly, the fishermen had lost 15 working days in the months of April, May, July and August in 2022 owing to alerts about extreme low pressure cyclones.

“A total of 1,66,756 families will be provided with Rs 3,000 at the rate of Rs 200 per working day,” said Minister Saji Cheriyan.

In addition, financial assistance will be given to farmers Omanakuttan and Jayakumar, who lost their house and lands during the monsoon in 2022.

They will be allotted Rs 18,09,800 from the CMDRF for purchasing land and building houses.
