Govt staff to face salary cut for coming late; Technical glitches sparks protest
Thiruvananthapuram: Employees of secretariat who get late to office will face a cut in their salary as the biometric fingerprint attendance machine and salary software ‘Spark’ are linked. General Administration Department has issued a notice in this regard.
The notice attracted worries, complaints and protests from the agitated employees.
Employees protested against the new change highlighting the technical glitches in the machines as it doesn’t register the attendance in ‘Spark’ even after punching. Employees demanded a solution to the issue.
Employee organisations which took up the matter called for a solution to the technical glitches that could result in losing salary.
However, general administration department stated linking of electronic attendance machine to ‘Spark’ was informed to the staff beforehand and thus no relaxation could be allowed.
The working time of employees is from 10.15 am to 5.15 pm. 300 minutes are given as grace period in a month. Employees who come late more than this grace period will get only half day salary on the day they get late to office.
