Thiruvananthapuram: Latin Archdiocese on Sunday read a circular in churches voicing intensified protest against Vizhinjam port.
The circular has been issued by Archbishop Dr Thomas J Netto and includes:
- Ceasing construction work
- Need of coastal impact study to coastal erosion
- Provision for proper rehabilitation and compensation to those who have lost their homes
The plan is to intensify the protest which will continue till September 13. Though there were many rounds of talks between fisherfolk community representatives and government, the administration has not yet accepted the demands, the circular pointed out.
Former archbishop Soosa Pakiam M and present archbishop Dr Thomas J Netto will hold a hunger strike on Monday.
