Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of the ongoing financial crisis and criticisms, the state finance department on Friday rejected Kerala State Youth Commission chairperson Chintha Jerome’s demand to give salary hike with retrospective effect.
However, the government has issued an order granting Rs 18 lakh to pay the salaries and other benefits to youth commission members and employees.
While taking charge as the youth commission chairperson, Chintha Jerome was entitled to an honorarium of Rs 50,000. However, the government later issued an order hiking the amount to Rs 1 lakh as salary.
Taking into account the revised salary, Chintha had demanded to sanction Rs 8.5 lakh with retrospective effect of 17 months. But, the finance department said that it cannot be accepted in the backdrop of the current financial condition.
Earlier, Chintha’s letter demanding the same had stoked a controversy.
