Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided that those who come to Kerala from abroad and other states need not stay in government quarantine for 7 days. Those who have facilities at their houses can remain in home quarantine for 14 days, the government decided.
Earlier, it was directed that all who come from abroad need to stay in government quarantine for 7 days. However, the new guidelines issued by the health department instructs that everyone who comes from outside Kerala should stay in compulsorily home-quarantine for 14 days.
The ward-level committees should ensure that the persons have facilities for home-quarantine. Only those who do not have home-quarantine facilities will be suggested for institutional quarantine from now on. Also, those who come to Kerala without travel pass as directed by the government will be put in institutional quarantine.
When a person is home-quarantined, other members of the house also should stay in quarantine. The government has not made any clarification regarding the changes in the quarantine policy. It is hinted that the increasing number of people in institutional quarantine and the mental stress they are undergoing could be the reasons for this decision.
