Govt not liable to rehabilitate everyone in Maradu flats: VS Achuthanandan
Thiruvananthapuram: Senior CPM leader V. S. Achuthanandan said that the state government needs to be extra cautious while rehabilitating and providing compensation for the inhabitants of Maradu flats.
As the government itself pointed out similar rule violations, the demolition, rehabilitation and compensation is likely to set a new tradition. First, an accurate list of those who need rehabilitation should be prepared. The government is not liable to arrange shelter for those who have other facilities for accommodation, he clarified.
Besides, there are many people to be rehabilitated due to various reasons. If the LDF government provided better facilities or priority to the flat dwellers in Maradu, it will give a very negative message to the public, he added.
Though the flat builders are supposed to provide the compensation, the government will have to hand over the interim relief. This amount should be obtained by attaching the properties of the flat builders.
As the flat owners will be eligible for the compensation only after they evacuate, the government should take over the land and only then should it hand over the compensation, V. S. Achuthanandan stated in a Facebook post.
