Thiruvananthapuram: K A Ratheesh, who was added as an accused in a corruption case by the CBI, might be appointed as the chief of Consumerfed, where Vigilance had found a corruption of Rs 1000 crore to have taken place. Government is gearing up to appoint Ratheesh, who was ousted from the post of chief of Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation Limited by the UDF government, as Consumerfed MD. According to reports, he has bagged first position in the list after interview for the post.
Consumerfed is already under scanner after a corruption of Rs 1000 crore, 44 Vigilance cases and 65 enquiry reports existed on it. Ratheesh was ousted from Cashew Development Corporation after he was accused in many corruption cases. The LDF government which came to power after that, expelled him from all posts he held. However, last year he was appointed as the Executive Director of Kerala Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (KIED).
Mathrubhumi News had reported then, that he was appointed to KIED ahead of his big appointment.
Consumerfed has a turnover of around Rs 3000 crore. Government prepared a list of 15 people to be considered to the post of Consumerfed chief. Out of the 15 interview was conducted with 5 selected persons. After that a list was prepared in which Ratheesh was awarded first position.
While at Cashew Development Corporation, he was named in many Vigilance cases. After LDF government came into power he was given clean chit in all these cases. However, he is still an accused in the case registered by CBI relating to a corruption of Rs 500 crore.
Ratheesh had been the Cashew Development Corporation chief for eleven years under three governments. It is believed that he has high political influence.
