Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has issued an order regarding the operation of COVID First-Line Treatment Centres (CFLTC) which are the health care centres under local self-government. These treatment centres will be established in each region as recommended by the health department, Disaster Management Authority and expert committee.
Local bodies should arrange the building to set up CFLTC. The health department will ensure the service of medical staff to these centres. At the same time, the local self-government will be in charge of all arrangements like infrastructure, food and sanitation except medical care, medical equipment, medicines etc.
In case of emergency, the local body can purchase medicine as directed by the government. Chairperson of the local self-government body will head the committee which is formed for the administration of CFLTC. This committee will manage the daily works at the centre.
A nodal officer will be appointed to coordinate and implement the management committee’s decisions. Apart from the nodal officer, an official appointed by the local self-government body will serve as charge officer at the centre. All facilities and activities as per the COVID protocol will be ensured at the centre.
The government order also mentioned the basic facilities, medical care facilities and waste management at the centre. In the order, the government informed that Rs 25 lakh will be allotted from district disaster management authority to establish centres with 100 beds. Rs 40 lakh will be granted for establishing centres with a bed capacity between 100 and 200 and Rs 60 lakh will be allotted for centres with beds above 200.
Meanwhile, a CFLTC with a bed capacity of 300 will start operation at Thiruvananthapuram Green Field stadium on Saturday. Initially, the CFLTC will be set up for men and women at the convention centre in Green Field stadium. The authority informed that if necessary more arrangements will be made here to treat more patients.
