Thiruvananthapuram: The Neyyattinkara General Hospital is again in trouble over an alleged medical negligence following the recent incident of a baby suffering skull fracture after falling on the floor.
One-and-half-year-old Ayush, son of Aruvippuram couple Akhil and Anulakshmi, suffered a broken cannulation and a piece of intravenous (IV) cannula (needle used for drip) got stuck inside the body.
Fearing controversy, the hospital authorities took the baby to Sree Avittam Thirunal Hospital (SAT). After waiting for days, the surgeons took out the broken cannula piece. The nurse at the hospital was blamed for negligence of duty. However, hospital superintendent Dr S Valsala refuted it saying the toddler might have pulled out the cannula. She added that the issue will be probed further.
Meanwhile, the new-born who suffered skull fracture was also shifted to SAT hospital. Parents had alleged lapses from the part of the hospital staff. They filed a police complaint and raised the issue with health department. Hospital superintendent Dr S Valsala had said that an emergency report was filed on the matter with the DMO. A detailed probe will be initiated to check the conduct of the staffer, she said.
