Govt grant of Rs 250 cr for flood loss to be distributed to 240 panchayats
Thiruvananthapuram: The allowance of Rs. 250 crores that was granted by the state government to local governing bodies that suffered huge losses during the floods will be distributed among 240 grama panchayats. 33 municipalities and corporations including Kochi, Thrissur and Kozhikode will also be given a share of the special package.
Rs 250 crores was allotted to cover the loss incurred during the 2018 floods. Out of this, Rs. 37.5 crores was separated for local governing bodies that suffered losses due to landslides and mudslides. The remaining sum of Rs. 212.5 crores will be given to gram panchayats, municipalities and corporations.
A committee was formed to identify local governing bodies eligible for financial aid and also for determining the conditions as well as the amount that has to be given. Dr. D Narayan, director of Gulatti Institute of Finance and Taxation, has been appointed as the committee head. The aid money will be given out based on the recommendation by the committee.
Total money- 212.50 crores
For gram panchayats- Rs 169.03 crores
For Municipalities- Rs 35.84 crores
Kochi- Rs 2.20 crores
Thrissur - Rs 2.28 crores
Kozhikode- Rs 3.13 crores
Total amount- Rs 7.61 crores
