Govt goes ahead with local self-government administrative service scheme
Thiruvananthapuram: While the opposition to the KAS is still raging among the existing employees, the Government has unveiled plans to go ahead with another administrative service in the Local Self-Government Department.
The Local Government Mission, on Monday, started its sittings for consulting the employee organisations at the Swaraj Bhavan complex.
Dr. C P Vinod, Chairman and Dr. N Ramakanthan, the commission member said that the service was necessary to strengthen the local government system. The discussions with the employee organisations will touch upon matters relating to the aim, functioning and unified structure of the new centralised system. After these discussions, the local government organisations will be at the table from next week onwards for further rounds of discussions.
The project seeks to unify five departments under the umbrella, Panchayat, Municipality, Corporation, Town and Country Planning, Village development and LSGD. The commission has also hinted that the technical and administrative divisions may get separated. The move has been made to ensure that the decentralisation of the departments can be managed with a uniform and organised system at the district and state level.
