Govt caps rates for Covid-19 tests again
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has issued order revising the rate of COVID-19 testing in private sector laboratories. The rate for RT–PCR test which was at Rs 2750 has been reduced to Rs 2100. The two-phase TrueNat test, which was at Rs 3000 (Rs 1500 each) has been reduced to Rs 2200.
The order issued by the health department has also stated that the GeneXpert will be priced at Rs 2500 and rapid antigen test at Rs 625 (no change).
It has also been decided to permit Covid testing kiosks outside all hospitals and laboratories that are approved by ICMR.
The order stated that the earlier rates for testing was decided based on the shortage of testing materials. Now, there is enough availability of materials and hence the rates have been reduced.
