Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the financial crisis, the government is spending over Rs 3.3 crore for an online cookery contest organised via Kerala Tourism website. This is organised when the government is implementing salary cut for government employees and other means to overcome the financial crisis.

Rs 3,32,80,720 is spent for the cookery contest. The expense is for organising the contest of Kerala style recipes via online and to promote 100 selected videos through the website of Kerala Tourism. Rs 2 lakh is spent for registration and other procedures, Rs 2 crore for campaigning and Rs 6 lakh for judging committee.

The government claimed that that the event is held with the intention to keep Kerala Tourism alive among the tourists during the COVID crisis. However, the huge amount for the event is spent when the government is planning to impose salary cut for 6 more months to overcome financial crisis caused due to pandemic.
