Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has summoned Kerala Kalamandalam University Vice-Chancellor to the Raj Bhavan on Monday with files relating to the ouster of Public Relation Officer at Kalamandalam.

Earlier, Kerala Kalamandalam varsity V-C T K Narayan had gone on appeal against the Governor in connection with the reappointment of PRO.

In 2017, PRO of the university Gopikrishnan was suspended and later dismissed from service for allegedly misappropriating money as part of an event of the varsity held abroad. It was alleged that his dismissal was done without establishing his involvement in the incident. Later, the PRO had paid the university the misappropriated money with interest.

Following this, the PRO lodged a complaint with the governor who inturn asked the university to reappoint him in his office.

However, the VC argued that the Governor had no jurisdiction to intervene in university matters. The governor then sought and received a favourable opinion from the government on his power to intervene in the university decisions. The governor demanded that the PRO be reinstated to his position.

However, the VC approached High Court against the Governor's decision. The case was withdrawn when the government intervened on the matter.

The VC has also sent a letter to the government stating that the post of PRO is not necessary.
