Thiruvananthapuram: The fight between Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and the state government is a joke, said opposition leader VD Satheesan on Monday.

Governor does not have the power to recall ministers, he added.

Satheesan was responding to the statement of the governor, the latest development in the ongoing rift with the state government. The Governor on Monday stated that "statements of individual ministers that lower the dignity of the office of the Governor can invite action, including withdrawal of pleasure."

Satheesan said the Governor has not sacked the Kannur University VC nor asked for his resignation despite admitting that his appointment was illegal. He should act as per the law and constitution instead of making such comments, Satheesan said.

He added that the BJP and CPM have arrived at an understanding to manage political crises in the state.

Meanwhile, CPM slammed the statement of the Governor and sought the intervention of the president. The chief minister is yet to react. BJP has fielded MoS V Muraleedharan to defend the governor. Muraleedharan said the government is forcing the governor to do illegal things.
