Kochi: Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan’s legal advisor and standing counsel of the Chancellor of Universities in the state on Tuesday quit from their respective positions. Governor has received the resignation letters of the legal advisor Adv K Jaju Babu and standing counsel Adv MU Vijayalakshmi. Adv Jaju is a senior advocate of the Kerala High Court and had been appearing for the governor and chancellor since 2009.
Adv Jaju Babu and Adv Vijayalakshmi had not revealed the reason behind the resignation yet. However, in the letter sent to the governor, the senior lawyers mentioned that the grounds for resignation have already been known to the governor.
Both of them are from the same law firm -- Babu and Babu -- and were representing the Governor in the ongoing litigation in the Kerala High Court in connection with the action taken by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan against the Kerala University Senate as well as Vice-Chancellors of 11 universities in the state.
In his letter to the Governor, Jaju Babu said, "For reasons known to you also, the moment has come for me to vacate my position. Thank you so much for the opportunities for professional and personal development that you have provided me as honorary legal advisor, during your tenure also.
"I also place on record my deepest gratitude to the Principal Secretary and entire staff of Kerala Raj Bhavan for the teamwork in dealing with all legal matters during these years."
Vijayalakshmi also communicated relinquishing her post in a similarly worded letter to the Governor.
The resignation letters were sent following the High Court issued an interim order staying further proceedings against the Vice Chancellors in 11 universities, who received show-cause notices from the chancellor. The court stayed the proceedings until it issues a judgement in a plea submitted by the Vice-Chancellors.
