Governor demands resignation of 9 Vice-Chancellors

Thiruvananthapuram: In a shocking move, Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan has demanded the resignation of the Vice-Chancellors in 9 universities in the state. As per the directions given by the Raj Bhavan, Vice-Chancellors in the 9 universitites must tender their resignation before 11.30 am on Monday.

Vice-Chancellors of University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi Gandhi University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kannur University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, University of Calicut, Thunachath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University have been asked to resign from the post.

Raj Bhavan informed that being the chancellor of the universities in the state, the governor has given the direction as per Supreme Court order.

“Upholding the verdict of Hon'ble Supreme Court dt 21.10.22 in Civil Appeal Nos.7634-7635 of 2022(@ SLP(c)Nos.21108-21109 of 2021) Hon'ble Governor Shri Arif Mohammed Khan has directed Vice Chancellors of 9 varsities in Kerala(see image) to tender resignation,” tweeted Raj Bhavan.

The apex court had quashed appointment of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Vice Chancellor Dr Rajasree M S, saying that as per the University Grants Commission, the search committee constituted by the state should have recommended a panel of not less than three suitable persons among eminent people in the field of engineering science to the chancellor but instead it sent only one name.
