Government offices in Kerala may open by April 21

The cabinet ministry would discuss the instructions prepared by the public governance department in the state as per the guidelines issued by the central government.

Thiruvananthapuram: All government offices in the state may start functioning from April 21. However, offices would only have one third of the staff till the time the lockdown is lifted. As of now, only essential service departments have been functioning in the state, with restrictions.

The cabinet meet would discuss the instructions prepared by the public governance department in the state as per the guidelines issued by the central government. The central government had clarified that government offices can be opened with limited staffs.

All senior employees like deputy secretaries or other similar posts, will have to be present. However, in other positions, only one third of the staffs are required. However, restriction on public transport will not be lifted. Also, inter district transport will also not be permitted. So the attendance of one third of the government staffs are not guaranteed.

The government will ask the central government for the hotspot districts in the state to be reviewed. The cabinet ministry will hold a discussion in this regard. As of now, there are seven hotspots in the state.
