Kozhikode: Minister J Mercykutty Amma on Saturday said that the government is ready to host talks with the protesters in Alappad in Kollam to reach a consensus. Alappad is witnessing huge protests against the mining being conducted there.
“Government is with the people. No mining will be allowed to the extent that results in collapsing of the shore. If people are demanding discussions, it should be conducted. Hence the Department of Industries will initiate the consensus talks with the protesters,” she said.
The present government has taken measures to build the groynes (pulimutt). Instructions have been given to start the work by giving tender. Government is of the stance that the mining works should not continue as how IRE conducted till date. The Assembly Environment Committee report had earlier instructed to conduct mining without impacting the environment. It should be completely obeyed, the minister stated.
