Government claims it has taken further measures over Justice Hema committee report

The report based on the findings of the committee was submitted to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on December 31, 2019 and a total of Rs 1.06 crore was spent on the activities of the committee.

Kochi: Government has taken further measures over the Justice Hema committee report based on its findings on the problems faced by women in the film industry. The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Kerala State Film Development Corporation, and Kerala State Cultural Activists Welfare Fund Board are entrusted to act on the recommendations, revealed an RTI reply.

Measures were adopted over matters on which they have the power to act.

The Department of Cultural Affairs informed the matter in the reply given to Ernakulam Vazhakala native MK Haridas as per the Right to Information Act.

However, the recommendations of the committee or the further actions taken are not available in the public domain.

There was much discussion over the inaction of the government even two years after handing over the report.

The Justice Hema Commission came into being on July 1, 2017. The report based on the findings of the committee was submitted to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on December 31, 2019.
