Karalam (Thrissur): “Courage alone made us survive. We didn't bother about the pain while attempting to escape. But now, it’s all back and every part of my body is aching,” said Kiran via phone while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Kiran (36) was one among four Thrissur natives who got injured in the horrific train crash in Odisha, involving the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train on Friday.
Ahead of the accident, Kiran got into an argument with a north Indian who claimed right over his seat and he had to hand it over to him. However, when the crash occurred, anger did not cloud Kiran’s judgement.
“While getting out of the train, we were able to save the north Indian passenger too,” says Kiran.
Meanwhile, three other Malayalees, Vysakh (33), Raghu (48) and Bijeesh (33) managed to escape with minor injuries. All four of them are currently undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital near Balasore.
The youths are part of an eight-member team, who had set off for tile works in Kolkata a month back. They met with the accident while returning from their temple work site in Kolkata. Four others, who had accompanied them, returned to Kerala a few days back.
