AV Gopinath likely to quit Congress, to address media tomorrow

Palakkad: The ongoing conflict inside the Congress in the state over the new list of DCC presidents has reached its boiling point. Reports emerge that senior leader AV Gopinath, who did not get the post of Palakkad DCC president is likely to quit the party.

He has called a press conference on Monday morning.All the 11 panchayat members in the Congress-ruled Peringottukurishi will also leave the party along with Gopinath.They have said that they will stand firm with Gopinath and will support his decision.

Meanwhile, Congress has elected A.Thankappan as the DCC president after ignoring Gopinath.

Gopinath, who was about to quit the party during the assembly elections, was persuaded by the leaders and was assured the post of DCC president. Gopinath called the press conference after meeting Peringottukurissi panchayat members and other leaders who support him.

The CPM has also come out with moves to capitalize on the controversy in Congress. It is learned that the CPM is in talks to bring Gopinath to the party. By supporting Gopinath and his supporters, the CPM will be able to take control of the Peringottukurishi panchayat.
