KSU workers staging a protest against the VC of Kannur University over the controversial syllabus.
Kannur: Owing to pressure, the Kannur University has temporarily quashed the inclusion of the works and thoughts of RSS ideologues Golwalkar and Sawarkar in the syllabus on Friday.
The temporary quashing will be in place till a new directive in this regard arrives from the high-level education panel, which was formed to study the issue.
In the meantime, the Minister for Higher Education, R Bindu, sought explanation from the vice chancellor over the incident and also said, “Such a sensitive topic shouldn’t have been included in the syllabus.”
The syllabus of MA Governance and Politics at Kannur University was included the works of Golwalkar and Sawarkar in a topic on ‘Hindutwa’. The inclusion irked public and student unions staged protests against this by claiming that it trivialised the the contributions of Gandhi and Nehru in the freedom fights.
Earlier, Kerala Students Union (KSU) workers staged a sit-in against the university Vice-Chancellor Gopinath Raveendran. SFI staged a protest on Thursday demanding to withdraw the controversial syllabus and also alleged that BJP’s saffronisation motive was behind the move.
